NONFICTION RESEARCH - REPORT ON THE GAP BETWEEN DEPRESSION AND EMPATHY

I sought out other depressed people and, through interviews, was able to validate my own experiences with their similar experiences: people still don’t understand depression - some people don’t even think it’s real.

So I tried to understand the other side of the coin - why don’t people get it? I thought that maybe, if I learn about their perspective, I can figure out how to get through to them - in order to benefit myself and others struggling with depression.

In this report, we conducted personal interviews with people who knew somebody with depression, and more importantly, those who didn’t. We then surveyed 100 non-depressed people, asking them about their thoughts on depression and depressed people - and uncovered startling statistics about people’s perspectives on depression and their relationships with depressed people.
